In August 2024, a new law legalizing medical cannabis came into force in Ukraine. This law was passed after being signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The law allows the use of cannabis for medical, industrial and scientific purposes, focusing primarily on the treatment of cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by the war with Russia. In addition, the law regulates the cultivation and distribution of cannabis. Many Ukrainian soldiers already use cannabis to relieve pain.
